USSFCU Marketing Visits the DC Children's National Hospital
On October 7, staff from the United States Senate Federal Credit Union Marketing Department visited the DC Children's National Hospital to tour the facility and learn more about the powerful impact fundraising through the Children's Miracle Network has on the lives of its pediatric patients.
The hospital was founded in 1870 as a 12-bed facility to care for children in the new post-Civil War country and has grown to a 323-bed facility with 16 specialty care centers in the DMV area and provides critical services as the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level I Children's Surgery Center in the area. Among the top ten children's hospital in the nation, Children's National cared for 258,350 unique patients in 2024 and provided over $159.6 million in uncompensated care to patients in need for the year.
On our tour of the facility led by Shelby Stallings, the assistant director of the Children's Miracle Network program at Children's National Hospital, we viewed the additional services and spaces the hospital provides to its patients to administer to not only the patient's physical needs, but the emotional and psychological toll that affects patients and their families. From the Main Atrium and the Seacrest Studio, an interactive media center fostering children's creativity and entertainment, to the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden on the third floor roof allowing even medically complex patients to enjoy the outdoors, we were touched by stories of how Children's National Hospital and their Child Life Services team positively impact the lives of children and their families during their hospital visits and stays.
